Instructions and Guidance Notes
In the survey package there are two survey instruments, these are as follows:
- The Survey Instrument for funds which are established under the laws of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
- The Survey Instrument for funds which are established under the laws of a foreign jurisdiction.
Survey Instrument 1: For Funds established under laws of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago
General Matters
- This survey instrument comprises of one questionnaire and five data sheets.
- The questionnaire comprises 14 sheets, with question on matters related to the following:
- Fund Particulars;
- Fund Management Practices: Assets Valuation;
- Fund Management Practices: Fund Expenses;
- Fund Management Practices: Returns Calculations;
- Fund Management Practices: Accounting Conventions and Performance Presentation;
- Fund Management Practices: Risk Management; and
- Corporate Governance
- The five data sheets comprise spreadsheets which should be used to provide quarterly quantitative data on items related to the following:
- Balance Sheet and Income Accounts;
- Securities Lending;
- Funds Under Management;
- Asset Allocations; and
- Sales.
- The data on the Data Sheets which is required is quarterly data for the period 1997 to 2005 Q1. The sheets are to be completed electronically and returned on the provided diskettes.
- Each survey instrument must be completed for each of the respective funds under the management of the Investment Manager.
- The Investment Manager is the functionary who should take the responsibility to prepare the responses.
- For the questionnaire, in the case (s) where responses to particular questions about a fund were already provided in a previous questionnaire, the respondent may simply refer to the questionnaire and the question where the response was previously provided. An example of this referencing is:
“Same as Question 7(a) for Piccadily Fund”
- In those cases where the space provided for a particular response is insufficient, the respondent may use supplementary sheets to provide more comprehensive responses.
- Additional copies of the questionnaire and data sheets can be downloaded from the website of The Commission at www.ttsec.org.tt. The questionnaire is an Acrobat PDF file while the data sheets are Excel Files.
Specific Matters
- Please note the specific instructions related to the relevant questions. Some of the typical instructions include:
- Tick all of those which are appropriate means that all those answers which are relevant may be chosen.
- Tick the one which is appropriate means than only one response is required.
- Quote Currency XXX means that the respondent should use the provided list of Currency Codes and quote the specific three letter code e.g. United States Dollar (USD)
- ($M) means state in millions of dollars
- Note that in the datasheets some of the entries require dollar values e.g. dollar sales, while some require number of units.

General Matters
- This survey instrument comprises one questionnaire and one data sheet.
- The questionnaire comprises 2 sheets, with question on matters related to the following:
- Fund Particulars;
- Duties of the Local Service Agent; and
- Accounting Conventions
- The data sheet comprises one spreadsheet which should be used to provide quarterly quantitative data on items related to the following:
- Number of Accounts; and
- Sales.
- The data on the Data Sheets which is required is quarterly data for the period 1997 to 2005 Q1. The sheets are to be completed electronically and returned on the provided diskettes.
- Each survey instrument must be completed for each of the respective funds of the representative Service Agent.
- The Service Agent is the functionary who should take the responsibility to prepare the responses.
- For the questionnaire, in the case (s) where responses to particular questions about a fund were already provided in a previous questionnaire, the respondent may simply refer to the questionnaire and the question where the response was previously provided. An example of this referencing is:
